Login into the System where oracle is Installed

su - oracle

To Start Oracle server

Now, use the lsnrctl command to start service (located at /home/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin directory):

lsnrctl start

You can replace "start" with "status" to check the current status

Next start database

dbstart

If above is not working try to login as sysdba using below command

sqlplus sys as sysdba

(give the password of sysdba when prompt)

At SQL> type startup command:

SQL> startup



Stop Oracle service

To stop Oracle service type following two commands:

lsnrctl stop
dbshut

OR you can login as sysdba user:

sqlplus sys as sysdba

At SQL> type shutdown command:

SQL> shutdown
